*Legs not yet strong enough for holding weight when standing. * Will hold rattle for a few moments, but cannot usually look at it, at the same time. * Can hold head up for several seconds. Head and chest lifts when lying on tummy. (tummy time) * Rests weight on hands and using them to explore

*Hands open. Arm movements are symmetrical. Movements generally smoother.

*Visually alert, and follows adults with eyes, moves head.
*Shows eagerness when offered milk
*Hand play. Loves to look at hands. Presses palms together, and clasps hands.

*Stops crying to sound of rattle.
*Makes noises when happy
*Turns head to sounds.
*Will suck lips at sounds of food being prepared

*Quietens to sound of familiar voice.
*Shows pleasure when handled, and talked to.
*Shows distress at loud noises.
*Stares at parent or carer when being fed, will smile in delight. *Reacts happily to familiar situations and sounds.
*Enjoys bath and other familiar routine activities, eg meal times and nappy times.

*The beginnings of understanding morals lie in early social, emotional and communication development, before any actual morals exists 3-6 months
* Moves arms purposefully.
* Lifts head and chest up higher now, when having tummy time. Rests weight on outstretched arms and flat palms. * Will pull himself to sit when hands are held. Will lift head up when lying on back. * Plays with feet when lying on back. Sits upright with support. * Kicks legs alternately. Will take weight on legs when held. Bounces and rolls over. *Forgets about toy if hidden.

* Stares at toys within reach, and grabs toy with both hands. Occasionally uses one. * More alert now and eagerly watches people in the room.
* Uses whole hand to hold toys, paintbrush ect. (Palmar grasp) * Passes toy from hand to hand. Watches toy fall.
* Starts to make tuneful double or single syllable sounds, eg 'muh-muh' ‘goo-goo’. * Laughs to self while playing, also screams with delight and with irritation. *Turns to where familiar voice comes from. Listens to voice. *Handles toys very well. Watches them at the same time.

*Raises hands up to be lifted.
*Touches breast or bottle when being fed.
*Is still friendly with strangers unless startled or familiar adult isn't there. *Loves 'Rough and Tumble' play.

*Rolls along, wriggles and may crawl.
*Leans forward to pick up a toy easily.
*Attempts to walk along when hands are held.
*Pulls to standing. But will not be able to lower himself back down. Falls down. *Sits up unsupported.
*Feeds self messily.

*Recognises names, in people and objects e.g ‘milk’ ‘mummy’ *Starts to master holding small objects between thumb and forefinger. (pincer grasp) *Handles books and other printed materials with interest

*Still explores objects with mouth
* Will drop toys rather than place them down
*Remembers how to use a toy, e.g car for pushing and ball for rolling

*Babbles more frequestly and in repetitive syllables, e.g ‘mamama’ *Copies simple sounds and beginning to start to communicate through sounds * Shouts for attention and will continue until they get it

*understanding of simple words, e.g ‘bye’ ‘cup’

*Becomes unfriendly to strangers at about 7 months.
* Beginning to have tantrums
*very alert and has a strong sense of exploration
*Recognises family members and carers, will become clingy to them in the presents of strangers * Stays focused on an activity for several minutes and may have favourite things to do and play with....
