The expected stages of social development in a child aged 4 years old are that they can play with other children and take turns when playing games and they can also share with the other children. A child aged 4 years can express anger and other emotions such as being happy and sad they can also feel jealous of other children when you are playing with them they sometimes think that you are just their friend and no one else’s. They also have a vivid imagination they can make up stories about monsters and imaginary friends they enjoy playing with their friends they have made in the setting they go to they also seek out approval of the adult around them at all times E.g.(mother father or teachers.

The expected stages of social development for a child that is 5 years old are that children of this age will of started school this may be upsetting for some of the children. They enjoy playing in groups and co-operative play this should increase the child’s independence. The children friendships are also important to them at this ages they invent games with simple rules. The sometimes get mix up with what is real and what is fake they can carry out conversation with adults and children they can also be very spiteful be leaving other children out of their games they can also understand the difference between right and wrong.

One suitable method of observing and recording development of a child aged 5 is a checklist/tick lists of observations to see what the child can do at the age and stage of development this method can be used by the observer so that the children may be asked to carry out seraphic activates for their age.
