1.1 Explain the sequence and rate of development from birth to 19 years.

Sequence of children’s development is the gaining of skills in all aspects of the child’s life. There are different types of development, but they are split into five areas; social and emotional, physical, communication/language, intellectual, and moral.

Physical Development (0-3 years)
At this stage its usually very rapid, babies depend on reflexes for movement, but they are visible, sucking, feed, grasping, and rooting. At the age of one they have more control over their own bodies they starting to roll, crawl, shuffling across the room, pulling and pushing themselves to stand. And they are using their own hands to hold their toys/objects. Between the age of 1 and 2 years; walking will become more confident, they will pull or pushing toys along whilst walking, they will enjoy feeding themselves with different kinds o finger foods. They will start to point to what they want and shake their heads to say no, and will wave their hands to say goodbye. Between the age of 2 -3 years they will to feed and dress them, scribbling on paper, as they begin to use pens, pencils, and crayons, they will learn to kick and throw a ball, bricks will be built into tall towers and will also start to experiment with liquids in play. 3-7 years

3 year olds will start to gain independence; they will develop their gross and fine motor skills; jumping, catching, running, and throwing, aiming, building, using scissors, pedalling, holding pencils to draw and colour, sewing, stitching, and threading small beads. 4-7 year olds will have more pencil control and will start to copy shapes, letter and draw pictures, confidence will grow playing outside doing team games having fun, hitting a ball, swimming, jumping, skipping, running and riding a bike. 7 -12 years

Are busy growing taller and thinner they will be losing their baby teeth; they will have hobbies and interests in dancing, singing, or football etc. At 7 years and up they will be participating in game activities with rules, they will gain coordination for throwing or catching a ball. Girls will begin to show early signs of puberty, and due to fine motor skills their handwriting will become more legible. 12-16 years

Between 12-16 years is very different in each child some may begin to mature physically other’s have already have physical maturity. Girls will be starting to develop breasts most girls will start puberty and will have regular periods. And boys will begin puberty and will be taller than most girls their voice will deepen also grow in weight and height. 16-19 years

Boys continue to grow until their mid 20s, and girls will be near their adult height. Both genders will always be hungry their appetite’s will be great and may sleep quite late than usual also may have sexual desires and fantasies. Communication Development (0-3 years)

Communication often means words and sentences. But babies let us know what they need and how they feeling; by crying, facial expressions, eye contact, body language, and sounds. At birth-3 months they are familiar with voices turn their heads to sounds what they hear, they are usually be quiet when picked up or be comforted. At 3-9 months they show excitement by waving their arms and legs, they gain pleasure by looking at books and pictures they cry when upset looking for comfort; snuggling into your shoulders. Also at this age they will smile and laugh they will explore their environment by crawling, and be near people who are significant and special to them. 9-18 months

By 18 months they are able to say their first word like dada, mama, bye-bye etc. They will shout loudly to get someone’s attention and will join in and listen to simple songs, stories, rhymes, and enjoys books. 18 months – 2 years

They will follow simple commands and understand simple questions e.g. where’s your shoes? Where’s mammy? Roll the ball. Children will have vocabulary of...
