Co-Ed Schools

All girl schools have been gaining popularity in recent years because of the belief that

girls learn better when they aren’t competing with or intimidated by boys, who statistically get

more attention in the classroom. I think that whether or not boys or girls are in a same sex school

it will not make a difference. I feel that the sex of your child and their peers should not determine

whether or not they will do good or bad in school.

I feel that in an all-girl school the girls can be influenced the same if not even more than

they would if boys were around. In today’s society everything is kind of like a competition. I

think that when girls are around other girls they will always be competing to see who has better

hair, better clothes, who looks better, etc. I feel that with girls there will always be a constant

battle with learning as long as there are distractions around. Girls are sidetracked by a lot of

things. As I sit in my classrooms every day I notice the little things that may distract a girl, it’s

not always necessarily because of a peer. Some things that can come as a distraction are their

nails, or a text message, the little piece of lint on their sweater. Anybody can naturally find a

distraction in something as long as they aren’t fully interested in what is going on.

When boys and girls are in school or have class together there may also bring about

distractions from their learning. They could be focusing on each other instead of whatever it is

that the teacher is talking about. I believe that this can also be a good thing. Sometimes boys or

girls need that extra motivation from another person to want to do well for themselves. If a boy

is in a classroom and he is trying to impress a girl with how smart he is he will strive for better

grades, therefore, paying more attention in class. You have to give students something to be

motivated by and I feel that in this case, they can be motivated...
