Physical Development

During 6-9 months there will be some big physical development in babies, they will be able to move about more taking more active part around the family. They will start to put everything in their mouth whether they see it on the floor or if someone has given them an object because the lips and tongue are sensitive objects this helps them with the textures of the object. They will start trying different food which some they may swallow but some they may not because they may not like the taste or the texture of it.

Milestones - Gross motor skills
1) They will be able sit alone for a few moments when put into a sitting position, then manage to sit by themselves without falling over. 2) They will be able to roll over from the front to back and back to front. 3) They will support their entire weight on their legs.

Milestones- Fine motor skills
1) They will be able to hold one object in each hand at the same time. 2) They will be able to hold their own bottle.
3) They can self feed finger foods.

Social, Emotional and Behavioural development
6-9 months will emotionally development immensely because they will start to recognise their own feelings and that their feelings are for different needs such as they may know the difference between needing their nappy change to needing attention so she may respond in different ways and give clues from wanting her nappy changed or needing a cuddle. The reason they know this is because as a baby they’ve had their needs met so they know the different responds such as when their nappy needs a change you change it and if they need attention then they’ll get a cuddle. They will also start to recognise familiar people they see everyday whereas be sensitive to strangers. They will start to have their own desires such as wanting to hold a toy or wanting to not eat.
