Reliance on Fossil Fuels and consequences
Our “energy crisis” has been the big talk of politics ever since the early 1970’s. In 2007, the United States of America Energy Information Administration researched that eighty seven percent of global energy consumption comes from fossil fuels. The worlds most reliable industries provide fuel and electricity to modern societies and have made millions. People have high consumption lifestyle revolving around fossil fuels to light up and heat our home, and gives us fuel for transportation. Providing food, energy and materials for the rising global population is a challenge, which is compounded by increased pressure on natural resources such as land, water and fossil sources of raw materials. There are many advantages and disadvantage on using fossil fuel as our primary energy source. Our technology use to harness the energy is well developed because of the decades long we have used fossil fuels for energy. Fossil fuels are the cheapest and reliable of all source energy. They are the best energy fuel than wind and solar, which are unreliable. Consequences of fossil fuel out weighs the advantages Fossil fuels are known to be the problem of global warming from green house gases carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels. Also fossil fuels tend to contain high amounts of carbon. They cause great pollution to the atmosphere and environment; United States seems to be the richest and most polluting country. Fossil fuels are a non-renewable energy source, which takes millions of years to form into use able energy. Dangerous accidents can happen while drilling the petroleum out from the ocean floor. Although there aren’t as serious as nuclear accidents, wind and solar energy seem to be the safest. We are spending our fossil fuel reserves in a non-sustainable manner. A large cost of our reliance on these energy sources is the death or injury of workers in these industries....
