Early childhood development starts for most parents with preschool and a early learning environment. Parents want to know their children are learning in an environment that looks like it’s only for playing in. The power of play is very complex and is a well prepared environment of learning that invites young children to explore, question, predict, test, investigate, trial, error, and manipulate their interest. All children learn at different paces and within their own style which is guided by his or her own interest. The power of play will help young children be prepared for school through learning and put into action the ideas and process being presented to that concepts and ideas make sense and can be mastered.
Another area of play that allows children to explore their environments and actively partcipate in their own development is through pretend play. They learn to deal with their problems and confront them and learn how to overcome any feelings of pain or freight by acting them out. Pretend play allows children to act out what they are feeling and express their emotions freely. They are able to discover solutions that can help them work their problems later in life and it also allows them to become better problem solvers. The role of pretend play serves several roles in early childhood development such as dealing with conflict and fear, working through developmental challenges, experimenting with social roals and contributing to an increase in self-reliance, self-control and self-regulation.
Play allows children to explore their environments and become active participants in their own development. Through pretend play, children can confront their problems actively and overcome any feelings of fright, pain or anxiety they may be experiencing.
