David is a masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture created between 1501 and 1504, by the Italian artist Michelangelo. The sculpture is depicted before his battle with Goliath, and everyone knows David beaten the giant Goliath with three rock and one sling. Michelangelo's David differs from previous representations of the subject in that the Biblical hero is not depicted with the head of the slain Goliath.

Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (1475 – 1564), commonly known as Michelangelo, was an Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet, and engineer. He is the best-documented artist of the 16th century. Two of his best-known works, the Pietà and David, were sculpted before he turned thirty. Despite his low opinion of painting, Michelangelo also created two of the most influential works in fresco in the history of Western art: the scenes from Genesis on the ceiling and The Last Judgment on the altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. He is the opposite side of Leonardo da Vinci. Both artists shared the power to imagine, make, and move and used nature the visible world, but they changed it, filling the objects made with immediate and universal meaning. Michelangelo seems like a difficult child. He was rude, secretive, offensive and dirty. He lived like a cave man or a puritan man and I think therefore He choose the sculpture for this reason to depict David, it`s maybe easier for Him. Michelangelo just made a huge sculpture from one giant rock marble.

The high point of Michelangelo's early style is the gigantic thirteen feet marble David, which he produced between 1501 and 1504, after returning to Florence. I think the character of David and what he symbolizes, was perfectly in tune with Michelangelo's patriotic feelings, because at the time Florence was going through a difficult age. Michelangelo used David as a model of heroic courage, in the hope that the Florentines would understand his message and it`s a good example for all the simple habitants. This young Biblical hero, was only thirteen or fourteen years old and demonstrated that inside spiritual strength can prove to be more effective than arms like Goliath who has a champion in the Israel army. David is a young shepherd who using a mere sling, which is the only element in the composition to identify the figure of David.

Michelangelo chose to present David as an athletic character who very concentrated and ready to fight the giant. When I observe the huge statue, I think David standing front of the enemy and his face looks tense and ready for combat. When I look through the body, the tendons in his neck stand out tightly; his muscles are tight; his brow is wrinkled; and his eyes seem to focus intently on something in the distance, maybe he searching the Goliath, but still is an ambiguous moment. Veins bulge out of his lowered right hand, but his body is in a calm pose, and he carries his slingshot casually thrown over his left shoulder and this sling not a special weapon it`s just a daily...
