Prayer- Father God in heaven, it is once again that you have allowed me to stand behind the sacred desk and breathe the breath of life one more time. God I thank you that you will allow these your people to witness your awesome power. God I ask right now in the name of Jesus, that you would make every heart in this room that has not fully accepted you, uncomfortable so that through this message, you can speak to their heart and have them surrendering to your will and your way. God I know that this is youth day but lord help me to preach YOUR WORD to the young as well as the young at heart. Then God I ask that you will put Minister Lee in his seat and that you will rise inside of me, using me as a conduit to reach your children, with the aid of the Holy Spirit leading and guiding. Then God I ask by the authority of your word that you help me set the captives free, heal the broken hearted, and help the blind receive sight so that they may see their way through the storm, in Jesus’ immaculate we do pray. AMEN
Television as we know it today has drastically changed from the days of yesteryear. Even in my 23 years of living, I can still remember a time when you could actually learn something from watching television. I remember sitcoms like the Cosby Show, A Different World, and Family Matters. These were shows that left you with a sense of pride not only in yourself, but your family, and your community. However, somewhere along the line a paradigm shift happened, if you will and changed the course of television as we know it. The networks that broadcast our favorite shows that we trusted to educate us have now turned around and decided that it is more important to make billions of dollars a year entertaining its audiences instead of teaching them. The educational mediums were replaced with programs that accentuate and perpetuate the negative influences already going on in society. This new wave of television is called “Reality TV”. Reality television explores the lives of real people in real life unscripted situations and it’s displayed on the television for the entire world to see and for the past ten years or so, has dominated the TV networks. There is a show for everybody; you have shows like Extreme Home Makeovers orSecret Millionaire that leave you in tears after you watch them or shows like American Idol or So you think You Can Danceor even Sundays Best that leave you inspired. Then you have the shows that in my opinion are the biggest waste of time and I cringe whenever I see them, Pimp My Ride, Wife Swap, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiancée, Basketball Wives, Single Ladies, Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Jersey Shore, For the Love of Ray J, Real Housewives, or even New York goes to Hollywood. Now I must admit that I have occasionally watched these reality shows, but my all time favorite Reality show is “Survivor”. Survivor first broadcast on CBS back in 2000 and now in 2011 is in its 20thth season. Survivor is a show based on stranding a group of strangers as a tribe in a remote location, where they must fend for food, water, fire, and shelter for themselves, while competing in challenges to earn rewards and immunity from being voted off by the other members of the tribe. The last challenger remaining at the end of the competition wins the $1 million dollar cash prize and the title of “Sole Survivor”. (PUT A PIN RIGHT THERE, WE’LL COME BACK TO THAT)
Lets go to the text. In the book of Philippians, Paul is said to be in prison, and he is writing to the Philippians to rejoice in the Lord. The commentary suggests that the general tone of the letter reflects Paul’s gratitude toward the Philippians and his joy in God. The commentary further suggests that Paul’s...
